And the answer is: Massachusetts!
On May 17, 2004 Massachusetts became the first and only state in the nation to permit gay marriage. This law came into effect based on the November 2003 ruling by the Massachusetts surpreme court that prohibition of gay marriage was in full violation of the Massachusetts constitution. Since then, Massachusetts has been the center of controversy at the federal and state level for both pro-gay and anti-gay marriage activists. Until recently, gay marriage in Massachusetts was in very immediate danger of being abolished. However, with the unprecedented support of new govorner elect Deval Patrick and the strong will of the Massachusetts people a proposal to let the people vote on the next ballot was knocked down with a 151 to 45 vote on June 14, 2007. Gay marriage is now forever protected in state of Massachusetts. No one can take their rights away.
