Article: Same-sex civil unions sparse in N.J.Towleroad Writes:
NEWARK, N.J., March 21 (UPI) — Only 229 same-sex couples have decided to take advantage of New Jersey's new civil union status during its first month of availability, a report said.
The New York Times said preliminary figures have shown a drastic drop-off in the number of same-sex couples seeking licenses under the new legislation when compared to the 1,700 couples who applied back in 2004 to be domestic partners.
The number of finalized same-sex civil unions to date also only represents 1 percent of New Jersey's estimated same-sex couples, the Times said.
