My name is Bernadette, but my friends call me Bird, so I hope you will, too. I’m not sure exactly what to write here, so I’ll start with the superficial stuff: I’m president of my school’s book club, and I facilitate my school’s Youth Action Club, which calls for social justice concerning environmental racism, but believe it or not—I’m not a liberal. I also facilitate a womyn’s collective, which is a circle of womyn who discuss issues that pertain to us, from stereotypes, to sexuality, to our role at home, to the way womyn are portrayed in the media. However, I doubt after knowing all of those facts, that you have any idea about who I am, because I believe that in order to get to know a person, one must speak with them. None of those peaceful conversations about nothing at all, though. Small talk is the biggest waste of time. Give me an angry conversation; one where we disagree on everything; where our very ideals and morals come into question; where our lives take on new meaning afterwards. I'm the type of woman who wants her eyes opened, and who demands to be listened to. Don't worry, I won't interrupt you if you don't interrupt me.
